Searching effectively in the health databases (online session)

Do you need to understand how to carry out a structured search in a health database? Have you been asked to evidence your search as part of your assignment?

If so, this workshop is for you!  We will guide you through the process of structured searching using one of the health databases (CINAHL). We will cover the whole process, from planning, to carrying out the search and finally to saving and re-running it.

Who should attend?

The workshop is aimed at students on health courses who:

  • Are new to structured searching
  • Have tried structured searched before, but found it confusing
  • Would like a refresher on structured searching

What do we cover?

We can show you how to:

  • Consider your topic and identify keywords
  • Plan your search strategy (including use of PICO/PIO/PEO)
  • Use Boolean operators and truncation
  • Refine your search using limits
  • Complete a search
  • Create an account to save / re-run your searches

If you need further information or any adjustments to fully access this session, please contact libraryhelp@tees.ac.uk in advance.
